Lone Worker Safety Training Course

Course aim

This lone worker safety training course is designed for employees who are either new to the lone worker role who have a long history of working alone. The environment that lone workers are exposed to is becoming more hostile. Lone workers are exposed to numerous risks including human and environmental. Many of these risks can be significantly reduced by training. 

1 day course

Lone worker safety training is essential to many roles. Many employees do not consider themselves lone workers however if they find themselves working alone, perhaps in an interview room or in a more isolated area they are often exposed to the same risks as someone working away from base.

Some examples of lone workers and roles include:

  • Visiting clients’ homes.  
  • When having to deny people money, claims advisers can risk conflict and physical injury.
  • Interviewing a customer on their own 
  • Engineers go into lonely places (e.g. blocks of flats to do routine maintenance).
  • Sometimes staffing levels mean areas are single manned by staff who are exposed to the public are at some risk of conflict, violence or abuse.
  • Healthcare professionals
  • Council employees

Participants will develop strategies to remain safe which they can implement into their daily practice. The course also introduces a range of conflict management and de-escalation skills.

By the end of this one-day training course, the participants will:

  • How to plan lone working
  • Essential dynamic risk assessment
  • Manage the risks when performing site visits.
  • Understand how people respond differently when on ‘home territory’.
  • Plan for extraction and raising the alarm
  • Exude confidence when dealing with situations
  • Build colleague support strategies

Lone working can be managed so as to reduce risk. Tactical awareness on how to approach  situations and to develop a dynamic response to changes in circumstances are essential to lone worker safety. Lone workers are more at risk from violence and aggression when they do not have colleague support.
